In the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, Katarina Johnson-Thompson has put in a simply amazing performance to come away with a world silver medal.

Kat jumped a new PB (and yet another club record) of 6.81m in her 2nd attempt to put herself into the lead, but France’s Eloyse Lesueur managed to jump just 4cm more in the 4th round to snatch the gold. You can see how each round went on the IAAF website.

As well as coming home with a world silver medal, Katarina is now 2nd on the all time UK indoor rankings for the long jump, and 5th on the all time list indoors or out. Add that to the national record she set in the high jump and you can see what a special talent she is.

You can watch a video of Kat’s medal winning jump on the BBC website HERE.

In the 3000m on Friday evening Jonny Mellor lined up against the likes of Bernard Lagat and Hagos Gebrhiwet to compete in the 2nd heat for a chance to run in Sunday’s final. The pace was a lot quicker than the 1st heat going through 1000m around 5 seconds faster and it was looking like Jonny might have to pull out another personal best to be in with a chance of the final.

Sadly for Jonny it was not to be on this occasion but he can be proud to have represented his country in a major championships and we know this is only the start of things to come for him as he looks to become a regular name competing against the best in the world. Heats results.

Well done Jonny.
