British Athletics UK Championships

The 2014 UK Championships were held over the weekend in Birmingham. Liverpool Harriers had a number of athletes who gained the qualifying standards to compete in the championships and it is congratulations to Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Anyika Onuora and Jonny Mellor who performed brilliantly to come away with medals from the event.

On the Saturday Katarina gained the silver medal in the High Jump with a leap of 1.86m, but followed it up the day later taking the title in the Long Jump with a terrific personal best of 6.81m to take the gold medal.

Anyika made it through to the semi final in the 100m but sadly missed out on making the final. However in the 200m she ran a time of 22.97 to take the bronze medal overall.

Jonny ran a strong 5000m to battle it out for the top spots, and a season’s best of 13:54.11 ensured he came away with the bronze medal on the day.

Congratulations to everyone who competed, including those not mentioned above. Full results can be found on Power of Ten and on the British Athletics website.

Youth Development League – Upper Age Group

Results are now available for 3rd match in the YDL Upper Age Group held at Leigh. Liverpool Harriers compete in the Northern Premier 2 division and went into this match lying in 5th place overall which is an unfortunate position due to having to miss the trip to Scotland for the first match.

Harriers finished in 4th place on the day with 430 points. That leaves us in 5th place overall with one match to go. The final meeting is on 27th July at Leeds.
