It is with regret that we learn about the death of John Balmer on 2nd July 2014.

From Mike Dooling:

John Balmer was one of the quality Liverpool Pembroke runners from the 60s, 70s and 80s who was very well respected and admired and was part of the superb group of Merseyside runners that existed during this period. He bridged the gap between the two clubs and was so very helpful to myself and other young Harriers such as Dave Evans and Roger Harrison as we served our apprenticeship in the local running fraternity. We had many battles with John and his Pembroke team mates which always ended up with smiles, handshakes and the odd pint! Thanks John for your support and friendship and miles we shared together – you were one of the gentlemen in the sport – very sorry to hear about John’s demise and sincere condolences to his family and friends.

John’s funeral will be held at Thornton Crematorium on Friday 11th July at 12:30pm.
