National Road Relays

The National Road Relays were held at Sutton Park this weekend, with the Seniors racing on the Saturday and the Young Athletes on the Sunday. The weather looked dreadful on Saturday morning but it cleared up in time for the event which saw some good performances from the Harriers especially the U13 girls who got a bronze medal.

U15 Boys

8th place. Sophia Brennan 21st fastest leg of the day.

U17 Men
27th place. Thomas Rogerson 39th fastest leg of the day.

Senior Women
22nd place. Rachael Burns 55th fastest leg of the day.

Senior Men
A team 13th place, B team 38th place. Daniel Cliffe 24th fastest leg of the day.

Cardiff Half Marathon

3 Harriers traveled down to Cardiff on Sunday to take place in the Cardiff Half Marathon, a popular race for those chasing times due to the quality of the field.
Alan Ashton finished in 91st place with a time of 75:39, only 20 seconds outside his personal best. Xavier Manel-la Pujol set a new PB with 77:11 to finish 121st, and Graham Rooney came 190th with a time of 79:52.

Chester Marathon

The Chester Marathon was held on Sunday with 2 club members taking part this year. James Cassidy was the first Harrier home setting a new personal best time of 2:58:40 to finish in 88th place, and Matt Helme came 323rd with a time of 3:18:14. Well done to both.

Oulton Park Duathlon

Congratulations to Ian Lawton who took first place in the Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon on Sunday. Ian competed in the sprint distance which consisted of a 4.3Km run, a 21.6Km bike then another 4.3Km run. Not only did he finish in first place he also broke the course record.

Other Weekend Races

Well done to Ash Chambers who placed 2nd in the Newquay 10K on Sunday.

The race attracted over 500 runners and Ash held 2nd place from the start and finished in a time of 33:37.

It was good to see that Richard Burney returned to racing on Saturday to take the win at the Merseyvend 5K. After suffering a stress fracture this year this was Richie’s first race back and he took the win in a steady paced 16:37. Let’s hope we see him return to the same level of form as last year for the upcoming cross country season.

It was a Liverpool Harriers first and second at the Princes Parkrun on Saturday with new member Zekeriyas Abery taking the win from Nzimah Akpan in 16:31 and 16:49 respectively. However it is with great sadness that we learn that local runner Darren Abelwhite collapsed at the finish and despite the best efforts of qualified medics in the race and then the ambulance service they were unable to save him and he passed away upon arrival at hospital. Our thoughts go out to his family.
