European Athletics U23 Championships

Well done to Jamie Webb who represented Great Britain in the 800m at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.

Jamie was selected for the team after his terrific 1:47.33 time set in Belgium in May and he ran 1:49.95 in the heats on Friday to gain a semi final place. In the semi on the Saturday he placed 4th in 1:50.04 to narrowly miss a final spot.

IAAF Diamond League

Well done to Anyika Onuora who competed in the 400m again on Thursday night in the Diamond League in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Anyika finished 4th in the race with a personal best of 51.26. Results are available HERE.

English Schools’ Championships

Congratulations to Anna Rowe who placed and excellent 2nd in the Inter Girls 300m Hurdles at the English Schools Championships over the weekend.

Anna ran a personal best to win the heats in 43.91 and then improved on that time to take 2nd in the final with 43.62.

British Athletics League

Well done to the City of Liverpool team who won on the day on Saturday in the 3rd match of the BAL Division 1 in Bromley. The team scored 338 points to take the win and that leaves them in top position in the table with 23 league points to Windsor in 2nd with 20 league points.

Promotion is looking promising with one match to go which is a home fixture on the 8th August at Wavertree.

Northern Athletics League

Match 3 of the Northern Athletics League Division 2W took place at Ellesmere Port on Sunday. We finished 2nd overall with 377 points to the winning home team West Cheshire who scored 409 points (results subject to scrutiny).

The updated league standings have yet to be published but it looks like we will be placed 2nd with 15 points, only half a point behind West Cheshire with 15.5.

The final match is on the 8th August at Ormskirk.

Tour of Merseyside

Well done to Catherine Doyle and Tony Green who both completed this year’s Tour of Merseyside.

The event, in it’s 3rd year, sees the runners take on 6 races in 7 days totalling 52 miles with varying distances and terrains during the week.

Tony finished the event 78th in 6:59:14 (4th V55) and Catherine was 162nd in 7:57:56.

Jenny Clague started the event and after winning the Southport Half Marathon outright on the first day had built up a 5 minute lead over the week but sadly had to pull out on the 5th race due to injury.
