Liverpool Harriers Xmas Handicap Wavertree Mystery Sunday 21st December 2003
On a bitterly cold but dry afternoon 66 athlete's of various ages entered the Harriers Xmas handicap, which was around the Mystery Playground, Wavertree. The Ladies (mixed ages) started the racing day with 28 athlete's. The fastest lap was won by Jenny Clague (8.25mins), and then 'jogged' the men's race to finish in 3rd place (19.24). In the Junior boys race, Luke Towers finished first (11.41), whilst Laurie Luscombe winning the fastest lap (8.40). In the Senior Men's race, Craig Hoy (U17), ran well to finish first, and was second overall (15.05), with John McCole (14.28) running the fastest lap. It was well organised by Harold Benson yet again but a pity not more senior athletes supported the event. It has been agreed by the committee that next year the event will be run in the morning.

SISTER CITY GAMES SHANGHAI, CHINA Sunday/Monday 2nd - 3rd November 2003
For the second time on 3 years six members of the club travelled to represent the City of Liverpool at the above mentioned games. There were 9 other countries competing with a very strong Shanghai team. The first day of competition the weather was ideal with the temperature being 27 degrees, and with very little wind. However the 2nd day was windy and was reminiscent of being at Wavertree in the sun. Over the two days, Victoria Griffiths won the 400m in 56.08secs, and was well supported by Rachael Thompson in 2nd place with a time of 57.25secs. Not wanting to let the side down Anyika Onoura came 2nd in the 100m in a time of 12.26secs in a race won by a Shanghai athlete in 12.15secs. On the second day she ran 200m in 24.74secs to gain 3rd. Martin Aram took the bronze in the High Jump (2.07m) with an excellent competition won with 2,10m by a Shanghai athlete with 2.10m. Spencer Brew ran well in the 100m, running 11.18secs in the heat, but came 8th in the Final in a time of 11.30secs in a race which was won in 10.96secs. In the 200m he was placed 7th in a time of 22.08secs. The race was won by a Japanese athlete in a time of 21.91secs. Martin Thomas was just out of the medals in the 400mh in 4th place (56.76secs) in a race won in an excellent 51.74secs by a Korean athlete. Martin also made the final of the 400m which was won by a Dutch athlete in 47.66secs, with Martin 7th place with 52.42secs. The athlete's all commented on a trip of a lifetime with experience that they will never forget.
Well done to all who travelled the long distance to represent their City in the Sister City Games.

AAA Junior Championships NIA - Birmingham 25/26th January 2003.
It's nice to come back from my business travels to hear the excellent results of our juniors at the AAA U20 Championships. Anyika Onoura won a silver medal in the 60 m sprint and caused an upset in the 200m final by beating international Vernicha James. Vicky Griffiths another up and coming star won the 400m final in a time of 54.28secs to set a New Championship Record. The middle distance group were not disappointed by Rachel Thompson who won the 800m title by over 5 seconds. These young people are the future of the club and may they
continue to perform well. Well Done
