Dear Mr Mitchell,

Re: Lewis Cheung - Upton Junior Football Club – Presentation Evening Friday 8th June

I write on behalf of the management committee, to express our sincere gratitude to Ernie Gallagher (Secretary, Liverpool Harriers) and to athlete Lewis Cheung (Liverpool Harriers) in connection with the above event.

At 11.00 hrs on the day of the presentation, our guest of honour advised me that he was unable to attend our presentation night. I was frantic in my efforts to secure a replacement. I telephoned the AAA and was dealt with in a courteous and helpful manner. They put me in touch with Ernie.

I telephoned Ernie, to ask for assistance and he kindly gave me the name of an athlete. Unfortunately this athlete was not available so I reverted back to Ernie. He assumed control of the situation and within 30 minutes had contacted Lewis, who had intimated that he would oblige.

Lewis attended the function, which was to present medals and trophies to our 11 – 14 age group. The room was full to capacity with over 60 players and 150 parents/friends. Although Lewis had not presented before, he carried out the duties in a most appealing way with plenty of smiles. He was a credit to Liverpool Harriers and to the AAA.

He spent nearly two hours with us and made a big impression on both the lads and Parents. I am sure that awareness of the work of Liverpool Harriers and athletics in general has been enhanced by the work that both Ernie and Lewis did in this regard.

On a personal note, I cannot thank them enough. As an administrator of junior football I am always amazed at the attitude of our ‘professional’ colleagues who seem to treat junior soccer with contempt. Trying to arrange Guests of Honour for presentations is one of the less appealing jobs – apart from when you come across circumstances outlined in this letter.

Once again, on behalf of everyone connected with Upton Football Club can I say a very big thank you to the AAA, Ernie and to Lewis Cheung, you made the lads’ presentation night very special.

Good Luck in all that you do.

Kind Regards,

S.P.Kell
