North of England X.C. Championships.

Derby - Saturday 26th January 2001

On a wet and miserable day, a coach of lads, girls and parents left Wavertree at 8am for one of the main cross country races of the year. Hopes were high and the lads and girls didn't let us down. It was one of the hardest courses that I have seen in my time, and in some places I would say dangerous. I'm glad I was not the meeting referee.

Under 13 Girls - The young girls of the club started the day off well for us by winning the team event (45pts), from Warrington AC (68pts). Melissa Ronan was runner up and she ably was supported by S Cray (10th), H Nelson ( 12th), and J Taylor (21st). Others who finished were L Cannell (29th), C Murphy (33rtd), A Blackburn ( 35th), K Edgerton ( 54th), L McMahon ( 65th), S Atherton (90th), and K Donnelly (103rd).

Under 15 Girls - The girls had a harder race and were only able to finish in 5th place overall ( 134pts), with the winners being Kingston upon Hull (95pts). However there was only 40pts between the first five teams. The harriers team consisted of L Quine (15th), Jane Rainey (31st), Hannah Beard ( 40th), L Druffell (48th), L Rainey (66th), J Pybus (70th), B Hardiman (76th), K Adams (107th).

Under 17 Ladies - The young ladies of the club ran their hearts out and finished 3rd overall (110pts), from the winners Durham (76pts), and Sale who were 2nd ( 104pts). Chantelle Quarless just missed out on a medal finishing in 4th place but she was supported by Rachel Thompson (22nd), Heather Flett (36th), and Nancy Walsh ( 48th).
