CLUB RECORDS – THE BEST YEARS
Grouping the current club records (across all age-groups) by decade
Taking the current club records, which decade has proved the best and most prolific?
Rather surprisingly, as you can see from the following table, it was the 80s which has proved to be the best decade for record setting, for both men and women (we are, of course, only just over a year into the 2000+ decade).

It is especially impressive that the 80s come out as the top period for women’s records when one considers that the 90s saw the introduction of Triple Jump, Hammer and Pole Vault as new women’s events, with the flood of new record opportunities that brought.
The oldest record in the book? Frank Crawley’s U20 110m Hurdles record of 14.2 secs from way back in 1959 (actually 120 yards in those days – but considered to be equivalent).
Come on guys – surely 42 years is long enough!
The longest standing ladies record is held by Wendy Gerrard, whose U17 100m marks of 11.7w and 11.8 legal (converted from 100 yards) date from 1966.
