SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS 2001/02
Sunday 21st October, saw the first round of the new season in the North West Sportshall Athletics League.For this first round we travelled a short distance to Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes. All 6 teams were well supported by athletes and parents.
The Under 11 team finished in 2nd place only 2 points behind Warrington. 2 wins from Samantha Mallon in 2lap & chest push in the A string and 2 B string wins from Kaye Jordan in Standing Long Jump & Vertical Jump, accompanied by the rest of the team, Jessica Moore, Chelsea McCourt, Abbie Bennett, Sarah Williams and Sophie Bell-Morgan, to all contribute to an excellent finishing total.
The Under 13`s finished in 1st place by a clear 13 points over Warrington. Excellent performances from Anna Walsh, 1st in A string Vertical Jump & Standing Long Jump and Faye Rodger with 3 B string wins in 2lap and both jumps. A 2 lap A string win for Ashley Helsby and a winning relay team beating Warrington by 6 seconds, the team was completed by Stephanie Jones, Hannah McManus, Alex Gidman, Megan Jones & Saran Potter. The whole team collectively were brilliant.
The Under 15`s finished in 2nd place 6 points behind Warrington. Wins from Lorna Heaton & Eleanor Davey in 6lap A & B respectively, continued an unbeaten winning streak that they both achieved last season in the under 13 section. Sarah Devoy won the Shot Putt with a throw of 10.37m, over 2m clear of the rest. The rest of the team consisted of Katie Thompson & Leanne Fairhurst, who also took valuable points in their events. An all round Excellent team performance from the 3 teams, made a good day had by all.
Once again we are paired with Hulme Boys throughout the season who always have a strong team, but our boys showed they could keep up with the pace.
Under 11 boys finished in 1st place, 5 points clear of Warrington, whom have also appeared to be strong opposition this year. With 3 wins from Tony Corrigan in 2lap, SLJ & Standing Triple Jump to also finish off a win for the relay team gave us maximum points in these 4 events. 2 more wins from Ashleigh Johnson & Nicolas Romano in chest push A & B strings. The remainder of the team were Jonathan McIntyre, Cameron Forbes, Paul Bennett, Robbie Pierce, Jack Hudson & Tom Burke.
Under 13 boys finished in 2nd place 11 points behind Hulme Boys. 2nd places in all running events from, Kieron Rowan(2lap), James Hunter(2lap), Andrew McKenna(6lap) & Stephen Siner(6lap) rounded off with the relay. Jumps from Kieron & Andrew took 1st B & 2nd A respectively. Two 2nd places from Kieron(Astring) & Callum Forbes(Bstring) in standing triple jump. The shot also gave us two 2nd places from Kieron & James.
Under 15 boys saw the throw of the day from Joe Connor, who threw a PB of 12.65m and a Bstring win from Wade Reid with 11.09m. John Dillon competed as our only 6 lap runner to bring home 2nd place points. Other Competitors were William Woods, who made up the team of 4 to run the relay. Overall finishing in 2nd place 19 points behind, yes you guessed it Hulme Boys.
We came away from this round with a good days work achieved by all athletes and support from enthusiastic parents & family.
