Sportshall
Athletics – Round 2
Sunday
25th November `01 brought us round 2 of the North West Sportshall
athletics League. For this round we
went to Norton Priory, Runcorn and once again this was well attended by all
teams and their supporters.
Girls The under 11`s, what a
performance from all the team, an overall win by a clear 25 points, says it all.
Two great performances from Samantha Mallon and Abbie Bennett, taking
wins in 4 lap A & B respectively, with anther win for Samantha in 1k chest
push and a 2nd in Standing Long Jump, plus another win for Abbie in
the SLJ, these two showed to be the best under 11 performers of the day, and
joining them in the relay team were, Jessica Moore and Melanie Brown, to win by
6 second’s. Overall there was
only two event that the under 11`s didn’t win, but they did come 2nd
The
under 13`s also showed their strength, winning overall by 19 points, once again
as in round 1, Anna Walsh and Faye Rodger took maximum points in their events,
both competing in, 2 lap, Vertical Jump and SLJ, plus the relay along with
Ashley Helsby and Megan Jones, the relay team won by a 4 second lead.
Faye had a plan and it worked !!! Hannah
McManus took a win in the A string 6 lap, along with a B string win for Ashley
Helsby, with an excellent last minute stand in run.
Under
15`s again as with the younger girls, a strong performance from the team as a
whole, unfortunately missing 1st place by only 1 point.
Two wins for Katie Thompson in VJ and Standing Triple Jump brought
maximum points in the A string and B string wins in the same events from Leanne
Fairhurst. Shot Putt also gave us
two wins from Sarah Devoy in A string and Sportshall new comer Lucy Foster in B
string.
Boys Under 11`s finished in
equal 1st place with Wirral, both 26 points ahead of 2nd
place. Yet again Tony Corrigan was
unbeaten in his events of 2 lap, SLJ and S Tr J.
Nicholas Romano took the win for 1k chest push.
The relay team of Tony, Nicholas, Ashleigh Johnson and Johnathan McIntyre
won the race by 4 seconds.
Under
13`s took 2nd place behind Hulme by 7 points, best performer and the
only 1st place was for Ross Hayhurst in Shot Putt with a throw of
11.55m. The relay team of Callum
Forbes, Steven Lewis, Matthew Owens and Kieron Rowan, could only take 2nd
place, 3 seconds behind, you guessed it Hulme Boys. The Under 15`s to finished in 2nd place, 15 points
behind Hulme. Two wins for Shot
Putt A & B for Wade Reid and William Woods, completing the team line up
were, John Dillon, Adam McGlory and Adam Cranfield.
League
positions now stand at all 3 girls teams in 2nd place, under 11 boys
in 2nd, under 13 boys in 5th and under 15 boys in 6th
place.
Half
way threw the competition and all league placings are good and if we can
maintain them or even improve on them, then the finals are guaranteed.
Lets
Keep Winning.
