On a chilly but dry Sunday afternoon, an above average number of members gathered for the annual handicap races. Some of the seniors were suffering from their night out last night.
It was nice to see that Curtis Robb was back running again after a journey from Sheffield. Although he was handicapped with 4.40mins alongside Ali O'Connor, it was Ali who was strongest on the day with Jon Ferguson 2nd, only 1 second ahead of Curtis.

The girls went to Sutton Park with hopes high of medals in the various age groups. However on the day the Under 13 girls were the only one's who came away with medals, although there were some good performances in the varying age groups. The results of the teams are shown below:

North of England Road Relay Championships.
Carlisle - Sunday 7th October 2001.
The girls teams went to Carlisle with high hopes and were not disappointed. They won the Under 13 and U17 title's and were 2nd in the Under 15 Girls. The teams were as follows:

Saturday 22nd September 2001.
Again the girls went to Blackpool, with a number of teams and won the Under 13 and 17 age groups, with the Under 15 girls being runners up. Details as follows:

Sunday 2nd September 2001.
Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.
The girls went to Birmingham as last years winners and ended the day retaining their title by 55pts, from WSE & H (313pts), and Edinburgh Woollen Mill (296.5pts) in 3rd place. English Schools sprint champion Anyina Onuora won the 100m and 200m by clear margins and there were many other winner's detailed below:

The girls have also qualified for the National Finals at Birmingham on Sunday 2nd September 2001after winning their last match at Wigan with 433pts from Wigan in 2nd place (325pts) and Blackpool (297pts).

On their 2nd match of the season, the girls won (401.5pts). In second place were Wigan (382pts), and Wirral were third (253pts).

Sutton Pk, Birmingham - Sunday 8th April 2001
Under 17 Ladies win bronze medals.
The under 13 girls were up against some strong teams, with AFD, taking the first two places, and the girls finished in 9th and 17th place. The teams were as follows:
'A' team -
M Ronan (8.58mins), S Hughes (9.23mins), H Cannon (9.42mins).
'B' team -
M Mouseley (9.23mins), H Beard (9.21mins), B Hardiman (9.57mins).
The under 15 girls, (26.14mins) just missed out on a medal by 7 seconds from Leicester City who took the bronze medal, with AFD winning the event (25.34mins). The teams were as follows:
'A' team -
Rachel Thompson ( 8.43mins), Emma Carroll (8.39mins), Chantell Quarless ( 8.52mins).
'B' team -
Jane Rainey (8.45mins), Amy Lyons (9.47mins), Laura Rainey ( 9.17mins).
The under 17 Ladies were the only medal winning female team on the day with the bronze medal (46.11mins). The event was won by Royal Sutton Coalfield (44.11mins), with Morpeth Harriers taking the silver. The team was as follows:
'A' team -
D Woods (14.20mins), Heather Flett ( 16.24mins), and C Draper ( 15.27mins).

AAA- U20/U17 Championships
at NIA - Birmingham
(24/25th February 2001)
The girls were not going to be left behind by the junior men, and as a result Rachel Thompson added the Under 17 Ladies - 800m title to her list of successes. She controlled the race from the front and won in a time of 2min 12.5secs. Another harrier also competed in the same event being, Catherine Draper who finished just outside the medals in 4th place.
Well Done Ladies.

Saturday 24th February 2001.
Under 13 Girls.
An excellent group of young athlete girls made the trip to Durham, and they just missed out on a medal by finishing 4th.
The counters were:
M Ronan ( 25th), L Quine (27th), H Cannon (46th), M Mousley ( 49th), H Hughes ( 59th), H Beard ( 65th), J Corrie (71st), L McMahon (98th), B Hardiman ( 137th), L Heaton ( 138th) and L Cannell (140th).

For whatever reason, the only athlete down as finishing on the results was Emma Carroll - 43rd. Did no one else run?
Under 17 Ladies.
The same thing applied in this race, only one harrier is down as finishing - being M Williams ( 58th).

27th- 28th January 2001
In the Under 15 Girls Pentathlon in the Championships Sarah Devoy, came third with a score of 2545.

Witton Park, Blackburn. - Sat 27th January 2001.
Girls show the way
The under 13 girls showed the way to a good start at the championships by winning the team event of the first race (with 53 pts), from Hull in 2nd place ( 111pts), and Burnley in 3rd place ( 150pts).
The counters were M Ronan (4th), L Quine (11th), H Cannon (15th), H Beard (23rd).
Others who completed the course were L McMahon (30th), J Corrie (47th), B Hardiman (48th), H Hughes (49th), G McMahon (53rd), J Cray (65th), C S-Rigby ( 77th).
Under 15 Girls.
This team finished in 5th place (177pts), with Hull winning (126pts), and Linc Well - 2nd ( 156pts). The counters for the team were J Rainey (22nd), E Carroll (27th), M Adams (59th), S Dennis (69th).
Others who completed the course were : L Rainey ( 76th), J Pybis (93rd), J Donnelly (107th).
Under 17 Ladies.
Only three athletes completed the course, therefore no team placing. The counters were M Miller (38th), Heather Flett (49th), and K Rollinson ( 54th).

Merseyside County Annual Cross Country Championships
Sunday 7th January 2001 - Clarke's Gardens, Allerton.
The Under 13 Girls, had a clean sweep of the first 4 places to win the team event with 10pts from S'port Waterloo - 2nd with 46pts.
The athletes were:
1. M Ronan, 2. H Cannon, 3. M Mousley, 4. L Quine, 5. L Cannell, 7. J Corrie,
8. H Beard, 9. L McMahon, 10. H Hughes, 11. L Heaton, 14. S Cray.
Under 15 Girls.
They were also out to win and that's what they did, with Rachel Thompson, winning the event from J Rainey. The other athletes for the club were, C Quarless - 4th, E Carroll - 5th, A Lyons - 6th, L Rainey - 7th, S Adams - 8th, J Pybis - 11th, J Donnelly - 13th. The girls won the team event with 12pts from Wirral (58pts) and S'port Waterloo in 3rd ( 63pts).
Under 17 Ladies.
Unfortunately, the Ladies only had 3 athletes running therefore they were unable to have a full team. However Heather Flett was 3rd, A Draper (7th), and M Miller 9th. If they had another mid place athlete they would of probably been runners up.
