Liverpool Harriers sent over a few athletes in what was quite a poorly attended championships and picked a few medals with strong headwinds for the sprinters

Sat 13th June – Merseyside County Schools Championships – Bebington
Yet again, poor weather was the feature with lots of athletes chasing English Schools qualifications and with limited opportunities to compete at the schools events and weight changes, several athletes missed out on qualification performances.
Peter Herring did however win the 1500m SC, over the english schools height in a club record of 4:49.6
A significant number of Liverpool Harriers were selected for English Schools

Disappointingly only 5 athletes were accepted for the British Champs and Kate Anson was a late withdrawal due to illness (likely to win a medal). KJT had a slight injury and made herself unavailable.
Catherine Blakeman, Will Hodi, Nick Wedderman and Alec Williamson were our only competitors on the day

We had a huge turnout of athletes for the U14/U16 champs and yet again huge headwinds impacted the sprinters on day 1. It was a successful weekend with lots of medals and club records.

U14B – HJ – SILVER – Miles McAvoy
U16B – 300m – SILVER – Jay Hussain 35.47 (Club record), BRONZE – Nathan Halewood 35.63 (inside old club record)
U14G – Javelin – SILVER – India Bates
U16G – Javelin – SILVER – Kristen Badrock
U16B – 1500m – SILVER – Peter Herring
U14G – 75m Hurdles – GOLD – India Bates – club record in heats 11.46 (lower height to previous record)
U16B – 1500m Steeplechase – GOLD – Peter Herring – club record – 4.37.92 (new height 76.2) – Peter also fell in the race..

Alice Jones competed in the U18W 100m which was a trial for international selection and ran 11.70 & 11.81 (both windy) finishing 6th in the final.
Aled James also competed in the SM 100m & 200m running an 11.10 PB over 100m & 22.34 over 200m

Congratulations to Grace Byrom on her selection for Lancashire Schools in JG heptathlon. Grace finished 6th in a new PB of 2387pts
