World Championships – Doha
Huge congratulations to Katarina Johnson-Thompson, who on Thursday evening become the first Liverpool Harrier to win a gold medal at a global outdoor event.
Kat was up against her big rival Naafi Thiam and KJT put together an almost perfect performance to break Jess Ennis’ GB record and record the 6th best Heptathlon of all time.
The performances were as follows:
100mH – 13.09(+0.6) PB 1111pts
High Jump – 1.95m SB 1171pts
Shot – 13.86 PB 785pts (club record)
200m -23.08 (+1.0) SB 1071pts
Long Jump -6.77 (+0.2) Hept best 1071pts
Javelin -43.93 PB 743pts
800m -2:07.26 PB 1005pts
Overall score 6981 PB, WL, GB record
Kat has now won World titles at youth,junior and senior level as well as holding the world indoor title, Commonwealth games title.
Elsewhere in Doha, Jamie Webb qualified for the semi final the 800m by finishing 3rd in his heat, but was disappointed with his run in the semi final finishing 8th. Tim Duckworth injured his upper leg in warm up and withdrew from the Decathlon(
Berlin Marathon – Berlin
Jonny Mellor ran a PB in Berlin of 2:12.29. Jonny finished 16th in the race and is now ranked 4th in the country. However Jonny was 59 seconds short of a very tough Olympic qualifing time
